Marvel Rivals 2.5 Update: What to Expect in the Upcoming Season

The next big update for Marvel Rivals is just around the corner, bringing significant changes to the gameplay with a new hero, map, mode, and various balance adjustments. Fans of Ultron and major shifts in the meta are in for a treat, while certain beloved heroes will see changes to their abilities.

A New Hero and Fresh Balance Changes

Marvel Rivals has continued to evolve since its successful launch, with developers NetEase consistently rolling out seasonal updates. The upcoming 2.5 update, set for release on May 30, is shaping up to be one of the most transformative patches for the game. Players can expect a host of nerfs and buffs that could shift the power dynamics within the game, including a series of key team-up changes.

Who’s Getting Buffed and Nerfed?

For those who frequently play with certain heroes, the upcoming changes will affect your strategies. Both Groot and Captain America will see their durability reduced, making them less resilient on the battlefield. Emma Frost’s “Diamond Form” will also be nerfed, reducing her effectiveness in certain situations.

On the other hand, Punisher, Squirrel Girl, and Storm will receive buffs, making them more formidable in combat. The much-awaited buff for Punisher is especially notable, as his rifle will become more impactful against opponents, rather than just glancing off them. Doctor Strange and Magneto will also receive minor buffs to enhance their abilities.

Additionally, the Fantastic Four and Namor will experience adjustments to their team-up abilities, meaning these characters will no longer be as overpowering in certain configurations.

Major Team-Up Changes Coming

Team-up dynamics are also undergoing a shift in this update. Several popular team-ups are being retired, including Iron Man and Hulk’s gamma team-up and combinations like Punisher and Rocket, Venom and Peni, and Hawkeye and Black Widow. But it’s not all bad news—new team-ups are being introduced, including Iron Man and Ultron, Black Widow and Punisher, and the fascinating combo of Storm and Jeff. The Storm and Jeff team-up, in particular, allows players to create sharknados by combining their ultimate abilities—a fun and unexpected addition.

A New Hero Joins the Roster

The update introduces Ultron, a new strategist hero and the first addition to the game’s strategist category since Invisible Woman. Ultron will bring a unique playstyle, acting as both a damage dealer and a healer. This new character adds a fresh layer of strategy, as players will be able to use Ultron’s abilities to support their team while dealing significant damage.

New Map and Game Mode

The update also introduces a new map, giving players a fresh environment to test their strategies. Furthermore, a new game mode will be available, offering an auto-chess style experience within Marvel Rivals. In this mode, players will command minions as Ultron, adding an entirely new dynamic to the game’s offerings.

A Look Ahead: Shorter Seasons and More Heroes

As a final note, starting from season 3, Marvel Rivals will transition to a new seasonal structure. Seasons will now be two months long instead of three, and there won’t be any more mid-season updates. Additionally, new heroes will be introduced every month, ensuring a steady stream of fresh content for players.
