Mastering Weapon Upgrades in Elden Ring Nightreign: A Comprehensive Guide

In Elden Ring Nightreign, weapons—referred to as Armaments—are essential tools for players navigating the perilous world of Limveld. Whether facing formidable bosses or waves of enemies, having a powerful and dependable weapon can mean the difference between triumph and defeat. Given the game’s progression over a two-day journey, upgrading your chosen weapon is crucial for survival and achieving success.

The Process of Upgrading Weapons

Upgrading weapons in Elden Ring Nightreign is straightforward but requires attention to certain details. Players must seek out Ghostly Merchants during their expeditions, who are commonly located near forts or settlements. These merchants have Smithing Tables nearby, which serve as the upgrade stations where players can enhance their weapons to higher rarity levels. The game features four tiers of weapon rarity:

  • Common
  • Uncommon
  • Rare
  • Legendary

To advance a weapon’s rarity, Smithing Stones are necessary. These materials can be gathered through various means throughout the game world. Notably, on the third day of the expedition, players are transported to the Spirit Shelter, where they have one last opportunity to use the Smithing Table before confronting the expedition’s Nightlord.

Unlocking Legendary Weapons Through World Events

After completing the initial expedition, players unlock World Events, known as The Shifting Earth, which dynamically alter parts of the map. One such event, The Crater, is a volcanic fissure inhabited by fiery enemies like Magma Wyrms and Fire Monks. Within this hazardous zone lies a Smithing Table that allows players to instantly upgrade their weapons to Legendary rarity. This upgrade bypasses the usual minimum stat requirements, enabling immediate use of the weapon regardless of player stats.

Locating Smithing Stones for Upgrades

Smithing Stones are rare but can be obtained with some strategy. One convenient method is purchasing them from Ghostly Merchants, who sell Smithing Stone 1. Players can then upgrade their weapons right at the nearby Smithing Table. However, to reach higher upgrade levels, Smithing Stone 2 is also required.

Another dependable source of Smithing Stones is the Glowing Cracked Statues scattered throughout the world. These statues can only be broken by provoking an enemy or boss to attack them or by using a character’s Ultimate Art. It’s important to note that certain characters, such as Duchess and Revenant, cannot break these statues with their Ultimate abilities.

The most reliable way to acquire Smithing Stone 2 is by exploring Tunnels marked with a mine icon on the map. Inside these tunnels, players typically encounter a Troll on the lower levels. Defeating this Troll guarantees a Smithing Stone 2 drop. Additionally, side rooms within these tunnels often contain chests with Smithing Stone 1, allowing players to save Runes that would otherwise be spent buying stones from merchants.
