Microsoft has announced the Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition, the first limited edition Meta Quest virtual reality headset. With Microsoft not planning to create its own headset, this partnership gives Xbox’s gaming ecosystem a chance to enter the VR space. So gamers can enjoy their favourite titles in a new way.
What’s Inside the Bundle
The Meta Quest 3S costs $399.99 and designed for Xbox enthusiasts. Available now in limited quantities, the bundle includes.
- A personalized 128GB Meta Quest 3S in Xbox Carbon Black and Velocity Green.
- Matching Touch Plus controllers.
- A special limited edition Xbox wireless controller with matching design.
- An Elite Strap for enhanced comfort.
- Three months of Meta Horizon+.
- Three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
If you want a more personalized setup, you can also connect any Xbox Wireless Controller, Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 or Xbox Adaptive Controller via Bluetooth to the Quest.
Xbox Cloud Gaming on Quest
The Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition works with the Xbox app on Quest and requires an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription to access Xbox Cloud Gaming. This feature enables players to stream various games, including more than 100 titles from the Stream Your Own Game library, even if they do not have a Game Pass Ultimate membership.
Expanding the Xbox Experience
The release forms part of Microsoft’s ‘This is an Xbox’ Xbox campaign, which communicates that Xbox Gaming is done not just on consoles but any device with a screen. The Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition brings this vision to life with its immersive and portable VR gaming experience.
Availability and Limited Stock
You can get the Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition at select retailers like meta.com, Best Buy (in the USA), Argos (UK) and EE (UK). But supplies are limited, and Microsoft said that they won’t be restocking units once they sell out.
Microsoft’s Stance on VR
Microsoft has opted not to create a headset, while competitors like Sony are incorporating VR. In 2019, a top Xbox exec believed VR wasn’t a priority for the Xbox consoles, as there simply wasn’t much consumer demand for it. Gamers looking for a VR experience can find great devices on PC and other platforms. This is why Microsoft has decided to partner with Meta for this launch.
