For those eager to revisit the Metroid Prime trilogy before the release of Metroid Prime 4, the journey is currently a bit challenging. This dilemma is not lost on fans or on Metroid Prime series producer Kensuke Tanabe.
In the recently released book, Metroid Prime 1-3: A Visual Retrospective, available October 28, 2025, Tanabe himself suggests the potential for a Metroid Prime 2: Echoes remake. Reflecting on the game’s multiplayer mode, he noted: “Retro completed the multiplayer mode without compromising on quality… Being of its time, it was designed for local play, so the number of players who actually experienced it might not have been very large. If it is remade, I would be delighted for more people to have the chance to experience it.”
The Buzz Around Metroid Prime Remakes
The 2023 remake of Metroid Prime for Nintendo Switch, which received high praise, seems to have set the stage for more remakes, with Metroid Prime 2: Echoes being a logical next step. With Metroid Prime 4’s release on December 4, fans might expect a slew of remake announcements. However, the resource-intensive nature of remakes makes it more plausible for Metroid Prime 2: Echoes to join the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack’s GameCube selection. Yet, that hasn’t happened.
Currently, playing Metroid Prime 2: Echoes is only possible using an original GameCube or Wii disc. Other than the Metroid Prime Remastered, access to Prime games is quite limited. The Metroid Prime Trilogy for Nintendo Wii was the last comprehensive release, and it has become a highly sought-after collector’s item. As for Metroid Prime Hunters and Metroid Prime Pinball, they remain exclusive to DS cartridges.
