NetEase’s Ocean-Fantasy RPG Sea of Remnants Unveils Fresh Gameplay and February Playtest

Adventure awaits as the ocean-fantasy RPG, Sea of Remnants, is poised to make waves in the gaming world. Unveiled through a stunning six-minute gameplay video, this latest offering from NetEase and Joker Studio promises an exciting blend of oceanic exploration and strategic combat. Originally announced during June’s State of Play, the game is set to immerse players in a vast open world filled with adventures at sea.

Dive Into the World of Sea of Remnants

In a recent announcement, the developers introduced the ‘Wanderer Test’, a small-scale Closed Alpha test scheduled for February 5 to 12 on PC. Interested players have until January 23 to apply by engaging with the official Sea of Remnants X account, the trailer post, or joining the official Discord server. The selection process is stringent, with only a limited number of participants gaining access to this exclusive test phase.

Embark on a Nautical Adventure

Sea of Remnants casts players as an amnesiac puppetfolk sailor, navigating toward a mysterious realm that promises wealth at the cost of memories. The game features over three hundred recruitable NPCs across rival factions, with alliances shifting based on player choices, dynamically influencing the pirate hub city of Orbtopia. Players will manage specialized crews, upgrade modular ship components, and engage in strategic turn-based land combat, complemented by real-time naval skirmishes.

Explore, Build, and Battle

Open-world exploration spans volcanic islands, lush rainforests, and eerie ruins, all anchored to Orbtopia. Here, players can craft, cook, fish, and engage in various activities such as playing mahjong and running shops in partnership with NPCs. The game also integrates roguelike elements, where death or shipwreck leads to the loss of unsecured loot. Decisions made by the player will ripple through faction dynamics and story outcomes, ensuring unique experiences in each playthrough.

Sea of Remnants is set to launch later this year on PC (via Steam) and PlayStation 5, with mobile users potentially receiving access at a later date.
