A New Frostpunk Game Is on the Horizon Following Record Sales for 11 Bit Studios

11 Bit Studios experienced a remarkable year in 2024, achieving a revenue of PLN 140.54 million (approximately $37.37 million), which represents a 168.9% increase compared to the previous year. This impressive growth marked the highest annual sales in the studio’s history, primarily driven by the successful release of Frostpunk 2, as detailed in a recent investor report.

According to the company, the surge in revenue was largely due to the launch of new titles, with Frostpunk 2 leading the charge. By the close of December 2024, 592,000 copies had been sold, generating PLN 69.73 million (around $18.54 million) in revenue. Przemysław Marszał, the president of the management board, emphasized this achievement in the company’s financial disclosures.

Legacy Titles Continue to Perform

While the sequel played a significant role in driving sales, older titles such as the original Frostpunk and This War of Mine also contributed to the company’s strong performance. These legacy games collectively generated PLN 35.75 million (roughly $9.51 million) in revenue, marking a 13.7% increase from the previous year. The renewed interest in the original Frostpunk was likely boosted by the anticipation surrounding its sequel.

Looking Ahead: A New Frostpunk Project in Development

Building on the momentum of Frostpunk 2, 11 Bit Studios has officially confirmed plans to expand the franchise further. The company announced its intention to begin production on a new game within the Frostpunk universe, with a tentative release date set for as early as 2027. The studio expressed its aim to diversify the scope and timeline of its projects, while also seizing promising financial opportunities in the short term.

In addition to developing the next installment, the studio will continue to support Frostpunk 2 with downloadable content and additional features, ensuring sustained engagement with its growing player base.

Challenges Despite Success

Despite achieving record-breaking sales, 11 Bit Studios did not meet all of its financial expectations. The significant rise in revenue did not correspond with improved profit margins. In fact, the company reported an operating loss of PLN 2.84 million (approximately $760,000), reflecting the high costs and challenges associated with production and development.

Marszał reflected on the year, describing it as one filled with intense effort, difficult decisions, and valuable lessons. He acknowledged that while there were setbacks, the team gained meaningful insights from their experiences. With cautious optimism, he stated that the company is entering the new year expecting notable improvements in both operational efficiency and financial outcomes.

A Promising Future for the Frostpunk Franchise

The confirmation of a new Frostpunk title has generated considerable excitement among fans of the series. Despite the competitive landscape and internal challenges, the prospect of another survival city-builder from 11 Bit Studios has sparked anticipation for what lies ahead in 2027. With ongoing updates for Frostpunk 2 and a new chapter in the works, the studio appears well-positioned to continue its upward trajectory.
