Legendary Pictures’ live-action Street Fighter film, which is set to premiere in theaters on March 20, 2026, is gaining momentum. Callina Liang is the actor chosen to play the legendary Chun-Li character. Liang will be portraying the legendary martial arts character from the game, but not much else is known about the adaptation.
Callina Liang began her acting career in 2022 with Tell Me Everything and then made an appearance in 2023’s sci-fi Foundation. The woman is Keri Russell. Lee’s Bad Genius have showcased her versatility. Liang will now reach a wider audience by taking on the role of Chun-Li, one of gaming’s most famous fighters, in this project.

A Star-Studded Cast
Liang stars alongside Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, Jason Momoa, Roman Reigns and Orville Peck, all of whom were announced for the film previously. While it’s still not clear what roles they’ll have and what import their involvement will have on the plot (the storyline is still in a shroud), one thing is clear; the growing ensemble suggests a bold vision to bring the universe to life. Fans can’t wait to see the actors portray the well-loved characters from the iconic gaming franchise.
Navigating Challenges Behind the Scenes
Street Fighter’s journey to the movies hasn’t been smooth sailing. In April 2023, the project was already in development by Legendary Pictures and Capcom. The initial directors were Talk to Me’s Dani and Michael Philippou. However, the Philippou brothers later dropped out because of scheduling issues, according to industry observers. No problem, the team managed to get Kitao Sakurai who was previously an executive producer and director of The Eric Andre Show and various series. This project, which has a release date set for the spring of 2026, is moving forward.
What’s Next for Street Fighter
As the movie’s premiere comes closer, we will soon know more about her role as Chun-Li and the film’s storyline. Right now, the Street Fighter franchise is going strong. Street Fighter 6 already sold over 5 million copies. Both gaming and movie lovers are keen to check how this movie adaptation manages to capture the high-octane action and colourful characters of this popular franchise.
