Nintendo has officially marked the conclusion of production for the vibrant Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle, a mere six months after the console’s initial release. This decision comes as a surprise to many fans who eagerly embraced the bundle.
End of the Road for a Popular Bundle
Back in April, Nintendo introduced the Switch 2 at a price of $449.99, while Mario Kart World was priced separately at $80. The announcement of a special bundle combining both for $499.99 effectively offered the game at a $30 discount. This enticing offer captured the interest of eager gamers, significantly boosting the sales figures for both Mario Kart World and the Switch 2 console.
However, over the weekend, the retail giant Game Stop revealed that this popular bundle “will no longer be produced” following the leak of an internal memo. The memo detailed that “future replenishment of Nintendo Switch 2 will be the base console,” marking the end of the bundle’s lifecycle.
Limited Availability and Pricing Strategies
As of today, December 22, Nintendo confirmed the transition through a social media post, stating, “Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World Bundle is available in limited quantities at participating retailers, while supplies last.” The bundle was always intended to be a limited-time offer, yet its discontinuation raises curiosity. With many units still available at retailers, fans still have a window to grab this iconic gaming combo.
In a surprising move, Best Buy has listed the Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle for $449.99, effectively offering Mario Kart World for free. This pricing approach underscores Nintendo’s resistance to increasing the Switch 2’s price, despite similar moves by competitors like Microsoft and Sony. Although Nintendo did raise the prices for the original Switch in August 2025, they have hinted that future price changes for Switch 2 games and accessories might become necessary.
Record-Breaking Sales and Future Outlook
Despite its initial price tag of $450, the Nintendo Switch 2 achieved a remarkable milestone, selling 10.36 million units between June 5 and September 30. This achievement cements its status as the most significant console launch in history. In response, Nintendo adjusted its hardware forecast, aiming to sell 19 million units by March 2026.
Mario Kart World, the standout launch game for the Switch 2, has sold 9.57 million copies, with 8.1 million of those being part of the console’s bundle. This means over a million gamers chose to purchase it separately at the retail price of $80.
