Helldivers 2 players on PC have something to cheer about as the game’s install size has been drastically reduced. Initially, the game occupied a hefty 154GB, but thanks to the expertise of Nixxes, the size has been decreased to just 23GB, freeing up 131GB of storage.
Technical Beta Testing Phase
The developers at Arrowhead have initiated a public technical beta after several rounds of internal quality assurance. Reports suggest that mission loading times have only marginally increased, specifically for those with mechanical hard drives. Only about 11% of players are using these older drives, and even they experience just a slight delay due to the level generation process, which operates in tandem with asset loading.
Future Plans for Helldivers 2
If the beta phase proves successful, Arrowhead plans to phase out the legacy version next year. Enthusiastic players can opt into the beta by accessing their Steam library, selecting Properties, navigating to Beta Participation, and choosing prod_slim. Helldivers 2 has been a resounding success for Sony’s live service lineup. Since its launch in February 2024, the game has sold over five million copies, predominantly on PC. It debuted on Xbox Series S and X in August 2025 and showed impressive performance there as well.
Exciting Updates and the Game’s Evolution
The latest major update, “Into the Unjust,” arrived in September, bringing with it fresh enemies, missions, and Hive Worlds for players to explore. Helldivers 2 has managed to shrink its install size by 85%, thanks to strategic enhancements.
