Phasmophobia Is Being Turned Into a Movie by Horror Studio Blumhouse

The spine-chilling co-op horror game Phasmophobia by Kinetic Games is getting a movie adaptation. The game is synonymous with a high-octane ghost hunt, and now it’s synonymous with Hollywood, as Blumhouse Productions is working with the UK developer to make a film.

Blumhouse, best known for producing genre-defining flicks like M3GAN, The Conjuring, and Five Nights at Freddy’s, is working with Atomic Monster to bring the supernatural experience of Phasmophobia to the screen. Although the project has been confirmed, we don’t have more details yet. There’s no word on the cast, director or screenwriter just yet.

Kinetic Games Reacts to the Big News

Daniel Knight, also known as Dknighter and director at Kinetic Games, expressed how surreal this moment is for the team. The game was initially launched five years ago. At that time, we could never have imagined how far it would get. He said that the support from the community has been great. He credited the success of the game to players.

Knight stated that partnering with studios such as Blumhouse and Atomic Monster is a huge step in the game’s progress. As the movie develops more, he will release more information about the film.

Phasmophobia’s Ongoing Legacy in Gaming

Phasmophobia is a co-op phenomenon that saw early access in 2020. Up to four players can investigate a location and collect ghost evidence. Its achievement was crucial in defining a sub-genre post this game, multiplayer paranormal investigation games.

The game has sold over 23 million copies, praised for its atmospheric tension and engaging group gameplay. What’s more, a new update called Chronicle will arrive by the end of this month! In this patch, we will make major changes to how evidence works, change the journal, and improve leveling and progression.

The Growing Trend of Horror Game Adaptation

Blumhouse got interested in video game adaptations after Five Nights at Freddy’s, which got a mixed reaction. The film is scheduled to be sequelized and released in December 2025. In Phasmophobia, that could definitely make for a spooky movie about ghost hunting under duress. The game has laid such a great foundation for what could come next in this adaptation. There is still a lot to learn here but it has a great start at least.

Keep your eyes peeled as more information comes out about how Phasmophobia will make its way from screens to cinemas.
