Exciting changes are on the horizon for Pokemon Legends: Z-A players, as an upcoming update will make it easier to score coveted rewards from Ranked Battles, specifically a prized collection of Mega Stones.
Season 2 Brings Easier Access to Mega Stones
According to an official announcement, The Pokemon Company is set to make significant changes at the start of Season 2 of its online Ranked Battle mode. Players will now be able to obtain Greninjite at Rank Y and Delphoxite at Rank S. Previously, Greninjite was only available at Rank K, and Delphoxite was not yet an option.
This adjustment addresses a long-standing critique from the community regarding the challenge of acquiring these Mega Stones. Players of Pokemon Legends: Z-A have access to the original Kalos starter Pokemon—Fennekin, Froakie, and Chespin—early in the game, and each one boasts new Mega Evolutions. However, unlocking these evolutions requires items earned through online Ranked Battles, leaving story-focused players in the lurch.
While the update doesn’t allow players to bypass the online component entirely, it dramatically simplifies the process. In Season 2, players can earn a Greninjite after a single Ranked Battle, regardless of the outcome, as rank points are awarded for actions taken during battle. Skilled players can jump multiple ranks swiftly, moving from Z to S efficiently to claim the Delphoxite. Reports suggest Game Freak is modifying point distribution to further ease the ranking process.
Future Seasons and Mega Stone Availability
Looking ahead, it appears that Season 3 will likely introduce Chesnaughtite at a similarly accessible rank and perhaps lower the requirements for Delphoxite even further. Announcements indicate that “Mega Stones will continue to be reissued frequently in future seasons.”
For collectors, this is a golden opportunity. A few Ranked Battles in Seasons 2 and 3 could secure all three stones with minimal effort, allowing players to step away from Ranked mode once their collection is complete.
