The iconic Resident Evil 4 Remake almost featured a fresh introduction starring Ashley, the president’s daughter, shaking up its classic opening sequence. Originally, players were set to experience Ashley’s perspective in the game’s early moments, offering a different angle to the familiar story.
A Shifting Start for the Remake
As fans know, Resident Evil 4 kicks off with Leon S. Kennedy diving into action to track down Ashley Graham. However, this remake was initially planned to start with a new Chapter 0, where players would navigate as Ashley. This sequence, however, didn’t make it into the final version, though a video now reveals some of its elements.
Set in the forest near the main village, Ashley’s Chapter 0 involved stealthily avoiding brainwashed ganados. This included witnessing a chilling scene before her inevitable capture, setting up Leon’s mission. Unfortunately, only a brief trailer snippet remains of this concept.
The Unseen Chapter 0
A modder, Michael “Thekempy” Kemp, has showcased parts of this chapter, yet much of it was either incomplete or didn’t make it to the released game. In this stealth mission, Ashley sneaks through the forest, hiding from enemies and witnessing events setting the stage for Leon’s journey.
Despite the game’s exciting new features, it’s understandable why this sequence was left out. Ashley’s capture is well-known and pivotal, and she already has segments later in the game. Plus, her character has mixed receptions among fans, making it understandable why the focus remained on Leon.
The Resident Evil 4 remake is heralded as an exhilarating adventure, fully realizing its massive potential. The decision to dive straight into Leon’s mission seems to have resonated with players, maintaining the original’s thrilling essence.
