CAPCOM is making a bold move with the upcoming entry in its iconic horror series, Resident Evil Requiem. Despite Monster Hunter currently holding the title as the company’s best-selling series, CAPCOM is banking on Resident Evil’s storied legacy. Having sold over 178 million units throughout its 30-year history, the franchise is set to expand with its ninth mainline installment. Requiem promises to weave together elements from both recent titles and classic entries, offering fans an exciting new experience.
Release Date, Platforms, and Pricing
The buzz surrounding Resident Evil 9 began in March 2024, but it wasn’t until June 2025 that CAPCOM officially announced its final title. The much-anticipated Resident Evil Requiem is set to launch on February 27, 2026. Gamers can look forward to playing it on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store), and eventually on Nintendo Switch 2, as confirmed during a Nintendo Direct in September 2025.
Pre-orders for the game are currently available, with the Standard Edition priced at $69.99. An enhanced Deluxe Edition is also on offer for $79.99, featuring a Deluxe Kit that includes unique costumes, screen filters, weapon skins, charms, an audio pack, and files. Early birds who pre-order will receive a bonus cosmetic, Grace’s Costume: Apocalypse, and those using the Epic Games Store gain exclusive Fortnite cosmetics.
CAPCOM has also unveiled a special Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller themed after the game and an amiibo of the protagonist Grace Ashcroft expected to release in 2026.
Genre, Setting, and Story Premise
Resident Evil Requiem offers a captivating blend of action-horror and survival horror, thanks to its dual-protagonist structure. The game takes players back to the nostalgic Raccoon City, showcasing its haunted remnants decades after the catastrophic nuclear event seen in past titles. The story follows FBI agent Grace Ashcroft, a new character in the series. Tasked with investigating a string of mysterious deaths, Grace’s journey leads her to the Wrenwood Hotel in Raccoon City, a place tied to her past.
Fans of the series will rejoice at the return of beloved character Leon S. Kennedy, confirmed as a playable character at The Game Awards 2025. Leon’s segments are expected to be action-packed, reminiscent of Resident Evil 4. CAPCOM aims to blend intense cinematic sequences with survival horror elements, promising an unforgettable experience.
Gameplay
Initially conceived as a multiplayer-focused and open world, Resident Evil Requiem has evolved into a single-player, linear adventure. The game introduces a unique hybrid perspective system, allowing players to switch between first-person and third-person views, catering to diverse playstyles. With a strong emphasis on classic Resident Evil mechanics, CAPCOM integrates combat, puzzles, and resource management into the gameplay.
Grace’s gameplay will focus on stealth and evasion, while Leon’s will embrace more direct combat scenarios. The dynamic pacing ensures a balance of tension and relief as players transition between horror-filled situations and action sequences. CAPCOM strives to make Requiem accessible to newcomers, yet rewarding for veterans, ensuring everyone can appreciate the franchise’s rich legacy.
Tech and Specs
Powered by the proprietary RE Engine, Resident Evil Requiem is set to deliver stunning visuals and robust performance. By eschewing the open world format, CAPCOM aims to avoid the pitfalls encountered with previous titles. The game will support NVIDIA DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation and path tracing on PC, ensuring high performance. Despite being the least powerful platform, the Nintendo Switch 2 is reportedly handling the game surprisingly well, hinting at impressive optimization across all console versions.
