Riot Games Returns Sandbox Game Hytale to Original Co-Founders; Launch on the Horizon

The popular sandbox game Hytale is making headlines with its return to the original creators. This follows a significant transition as Riot Games has sold the rights back to the game’s co-founders. The game, which blends crafting elements with role-playing experiences, now looks forward to an early access launch.

Hytale’s Shutdown & Re-acquisition

Riot Games had acquired Hypixel Studios in 2020, planning to bolster Hytale’s development. Despite an optimistic update early this year, Riot announced the project’s end along with the shutdown of Hypixel Studios just months later. Recognizing the community’s strong reaction, co-founders Simon Collins-Laflamme and Philippe Touchette stepped in to regain control. Yesterday, both parties confirmed the re-acquisition of Hytale and the continuation of the project.

The Future of Hytale

With a decade-long commitment from its original creators and over 30 developers back on board, Hytale is poised for a revival. Its early access version is set to launch soon, offering Exploration Mode, Creative Mode, and modding features, with more updates planned. The team emphasizes the importance of community involvement as they refine the game, acknowledging the risks but inviting player participation in shaping Hytale’s future.
