Rockstar Claims Dismissed GTA Developers Were Behind Info Leaks

Rockstar Games has recently found itself embroiled in controversy following the dismissal of a number of employees. The move has sparked accusations of union-busting, especially since these employees were reportedly involved in unionizing efforts. However, Rockstar maintains that the firings were due to breaches of confidentiality. The situation has led to public protests and ongoing discussions about workplace rights and game development security.

Firing Controversy at Rockstar

Last week, Rockstar terminated between thirty and forty employees across its offices in Canada and the UK. These developers, according to the Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain (IWGB), were focused on unionizing efforts, and the union has pledged to defend their rights through all available legal channels. Initially, Rockstar cited ‘gross misconduct’ as the reason for the dismissals.

Accusations and Rebuttals

Recently, reports have detailed that the company accused these employees of sharing confidential information in public forums, thus violating company policies. A spokesperson from Rockstar refuted claims of union-busting, stating that the dismissals were unrelated to such activities. Despite this, the IWGB remains unconvinced, arguing that Rockstar is trying to suppress workers’ rights to a fair workplace.

Currently, IWGB members are staging protests outside Take-Two House in London in support of the dismissed employees. Public forums like GTAForums have been known for leaks, although no significant leaks have been reported recently. Rockstar has been vigilant about security since the major Grand Theft Auto VI leak in 2022.

Grand Theft Auto VI Release Update

Amid these controversies, the anticipated game Grand Theft Auto VI is now set for a release on May 26, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S and X. Though originally aiming for a Fall 2025 release, delays are not unheard of in Rockstar’s history. The PC version might follow shortly after, according to statements from industry leaders.

With the finish line in sight, Rockstar is doubling down on security to prevent any further leaks as they approach the highly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto VI.
