Concerns Arise Over Cloud Save Support for Tears of the Kingdom on Switch 2

The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to feature upgraded versions of several original Switch titles, including The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. However, fans have begun expressing concern after discovering a note suggesting that certain games may not support Nintendo’s cloud save functionality as anticipated.

In recent days, users observed a disclaimer on the official page for the Switch 2 version of Tears of the Kingdom. The message reads that this particular software does not support the Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) paid membership’s Save Data Cloud backup feature.

Similar Cases with Other Titles

According to discussions on gaming forums, the same disclaimer was reportedly seen on the pages for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Switch 2 Edition and Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV. Although that message has since been removed from those titles’ pages, it remains present on the page for Tears of the Kingdom as of now.

Interestingly, the Japanese version of the official page does not appear to include this warning. It seems that only the US and EU versions display this cloud save notice, which adds to the overall confusion among fans.

Potential Impact on Players

If this turns out to be accurate, it could lead to complicated situations for users. Cloud saving is a crucial feature for many NSO subscribers, as it allows seamless game transfers between systems and helps manage storage without risking the loss of progress.

That said, transferring save files from the original Switch version to the upgraded Switch 2 version of Tears of the Kingdom still appears possible. The official Nintendo listing highlights that the enhanced edition offers an extra save slot, which allows players to either begin a new adventure or continue using existing save data. However, it’s also mentioned that data created in this second slot cannot be transferred back to the original Switch version.

Hoping for Clarity

This situation has understandably left fans uneasy, especially those who have invested significant time into their game saves and are planning to upgrade systems. Clear communication from Nintendo is hoped for soon, to address growing concerns and avoid potential frustration among players.

Switch 2 Edition Offers Added Features

Despite the confusion, the Switch 2 version of Tears of the Kingdom offers several enhancements aimed at making the upgrade worthwhile. Among them is the Zelda Notes app, which provides helpful content such as lore insights, gameplay tips, and even possible equipment repair tools to assist adventurers on their journey.
