The Splitgate 2 open beta test will officially begin on May 22, following the successful open alpha test from earlier this year that was received positively by players. Developer 1047 Games has announced that the upcoming beta will feature significantly more content than the previous alpha version.
According to the development team, the alpha test produced impressive statistics including over 500,000 games played, 20 million portals opened, and 59 million eliminations. Players also recorded one million “BFB bonks,” referring to the baseball bat-inspired weapon that serves as Splitgate’s version of a powerful melee option.
Extensive New Features Announced
The open beta will introduce a substantial amount of new content, including:
- 25+ Weapons – featuring the newly added Borealis, an energy carbine power weapon
- 15+ Maps – including two new massive 24-Player Onslaught maps, Drought and Fracture
- 10+ Modes – with the fan-favorite Takedown mode returning, where teams compete to eliminate all opposing team members before they can respawn
Additionally, 1047 Games has teased an intriguing “infinite maps” feature, though details about this will not be revealed until closer to the beta launch date.
Building on Alpha Success
Back in March, the development team hinted at the upcoming beta test, advising players to mark their calendars for May. The team emphasized that the open beta would contain substantially more content than what was available in the alpha version.
The previous alpha test implemented several significant changes based on player feedback from a 2024 playtest, helping refine the gameplay experience.
For those interested in participating in the open beta, 1047 Games recommends wishlisting Splitgate 2 on your preferred platform. The game will be available on Steam and Epic Games Store for PC players, as well as on consoles. Players can visit splitgate.com to ensure they receive notifications when the beta begins.
The Hotzone mode, similar to King of the Hill gameplay, was particularly well-received during previous testing and will likely continue to be a highlight in the upcoming beta.
