Splitgate is making a thrilling comeback this December as 1047 Games reintroduces the title under its new name, Splitgate: Arena Reloaded. Mark your calendars for December 17, 2025, as this revamped version is set to launch as a free-to-play experience on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation platforms.
The journey of Splitgate 2 has been quite the rollercoaster, with its original release in June receiving mixed reactions and leading to a swift decline in player numbers. Amid growing critiques and controversies, 1047 Games decided to “unlaunch” Splitgate 2 in July, pausing support to embark on a bold rework, promising sweeping changes that would cater to the community’s feedback.
Developer’s Commitment to Fans
In a candid discussion with CEO Ian Proulx, he admitted that the initial release did not meet the expectations of a finished product. Fans longed for elements reminiscent of the first Splitgate, and the development team took these sentiments seriously. Proulx assured players that the forthcoming updates would incorporate essential features like leaderboards, expanded portal walls, and refined game modes, alongside changes to monetization for a clearer and more engaging experience. Initially projected for 2026, the release of these updates in December comes as a pleasant surprise.
What’s New in Arena Reloaded?
Splitgate: Arena Reloaded promises to transform the game from the ground up. According to 1047 Games, the relaunch includes significant updates:
- Elimination of Factions, Abilities, and select equipment for a return to classic arena combat
- Reconstruction of progression systems and a revamped Ranked system
- Introduction of 5 new maps, 6 reworked maps, 3 new Primary Weapons, and a new Power Weapon, the Railgun
- New Arena modes, playlist options, and a Classic Arena mode with equal starts and powerups
- Lowered store prices, a simplified Battle Pass, and enhanced cosmetic quality
Josh Watson, the design director at 1047, also highlighted the inclusion of player stats, leaderboards, and a comprehensive career system in a recent video announcement.
Reports suggest that the original launch of Splitgate 2 was rated a 7/10, acknowledged as a worthy successor with room for growth.
