Fans of the beloved dragon-themed platformer have reason to rejoice this holiday season. Reports suggest that a new installment, Spyro 4, is currently under development. This exciting news emerged when a former Toys for Bob developer’s LinkedIn profile revealed he worked on a Spyro project for nearly two years, concluding in March 2024.
Spyro’s Return and Toys for Bob’s Journey
The timeline hints that this project is not related to the Reignited Trilogy, released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on November 13, 2018, and later for PC and Nintendo Switch on September 3, 2019. Instead, it indicates a fresh project brewing at Toys for Bob. The studio, located in Novato, California, previously assisted with Call of Duty Warzone in 2021 and released Crash Team Rumble, a 4v4 multiplayer game, in June 2023. After a lackluster reception, Toys for Bob parted ways with Activision and its new owner, Microsoft, by March 2024, regaining its independence. Yet, rumors suggest their first independent venture will still be in collaboration with Microsoft, possibly using one of its IPs, with Spyro being a likely candidate.
Spyro 4 Rumors and Availability of Past Titles
This isn’t the first hint of a new Spyro game. Speculation began five years ago when concept art for the iconic purple dragon was found in the official art book of Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, another Toys for Bob creation. While an official announcement is awaited, fans can enjoy the acclaimed Reignited Trilogy, now available at a 65% discount on PC (Steam) and Xbox. Unfortunately, PlayStation users must purchase it at the full price of $39.99 via the PlayStation Store. The Trilogy is also accessible through the Game Pass subscription at the Premium and Ultimate tiers.
