System Era Softworks, the team behind the beloved space exploration title Astroneer, has unveiled its upcoming project set within the same universe. Titled Starseeker: Astroneer Expeditions, this new game is described as a multiplayer journey of exploration and collaboration across the cosmos, aiming for release in 2026.
The ESS Starseeker – A Hub for Adventure
At the core of the experience lies the ESS Starseeker, a dynamic and ever-evolving space station that will serve as the central hub for players. Within this persistent station, participants will prepare missions, customize and upgrade their equipment, and spend time with fellow explorers. Teamwork will be essential, as players must unite to complete large-scale missions spread across multiple star systems, utilizing advanced technologies along the way.
Encounters with strange alien species and unpredictable challenges are expected to be part of the experience, adding depth and variety to the gameplay.
A Universe That Rewards Curiosity
System Era emphasized that player freedom is a key design pillar for Starseeker: Astroneer Expeditions. While cooperative gameplay and mission-based objectives are at the forefront, there’s also a deeper narrative waiting to be uncovered by those who choose to dig beneath the surface.

The game stands independently from Astroneer but remains rooted in the same imaginative universe. Although it was introduced during a Nintendo Direct showcase, the title will also be available on PC. It is currently open for wishlisting on Steam. While multiplayer is a major focus, it’s confirmed that the game will also support singleplayer for those who prefer to journey solo.
A Game Built Around Community and Shared Experiences
System Era Softworks expressed that the project reflects their broader goals as a studio—to offer players meaningful agency while bringing them together through shared adventures. According to the studio’s co-founder and creative director, Adam Bromell, this vision will be brought to life over the coming months through a series of livestreams, behind-the-scenes video updates, a limited beta, and the first official gameplay trailer.
He explained that the studio plans to maintain an open development process, with transparency being a guiding principle throughout.
Astroneer Will Continue Alongside Its Successor
Fans of Astroneer can breathe easy: the release of Starseeker: Astroneer Expeditions does not signal the end for the original title. System Era has confirmed that Astroneer will continue to receive updates and new content for years to come, coexisting alongside its spiritual successor.
The announcement has already sparked excitement among the community, as the studio invites all explorers—serious or silly—to take part in this next phase of interstellar adventure.
