Steam System Glitch: Website and Store Pages Offline [Update]

Update 24/12/2025 3:36 pm EST – The Steam store and website are back online. Altogether, the store was only offline for a little over an hour. You can go back to redeeming those gift cards and squeezing every cent out of them during the Winter Sale.

That said, we may not be entirely out of the woods yet, so if you’re still having issues, maybe just give it a little more time.

Original Story:

Trying to dive into the Steam Winter Sale only to be met with a black screen or error message? Rest easy, it’s not your WiFi acting up. Steam is currently down, and the timeframe for a fix remains unknown.

Reports suggest Valve has not issued any statements about the outage, which has been ongoing for the past hour. Meanwhile, thousands have turned to DownDetector while over 250,000 users have checked SteamDB to see what’s causing the disruption.

This outage comes at a bad time for the digital storefront, with countless players eager to use their gift cards during the sale and grab items off their wishlists at reduced prices.

The Winter Sale continues until January 5, 2026, so there is hope Valve will resolve the issues soon. Meanwhile, you might want to check out the Epic Games Store for today’s free game, The Callisto Protocol.

Why Steam Feels Like Home

As players wait for Steam to return, the community aspect of the platform becomes clear. According to Adrian Chmielarz in a recent interview, the Epic Games Store offers a more transactional experience compared to Steam. “EGS is a shop, and Steam is a community.” This absence of community features like forums and reviews is why many consider Steam their go-to platform.

We’ll keep you posted if Valve releases any updates about the store’s status or if things start functioning properly on their own.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to monitor the situation!
