Nintendo keeps adding more favorites to the Switch 2 GameCube library, including a classic sports game. Super Mario Strikers, a fun arcade soccer game, becomes available for subscribers on July 3. Have fun with it, or check out other Mario sports games!
Arcade Soccer with a Mario Twist
Super Mario Strikers descends on the pitch and I feel like I need to play it. First hitting shelves in 2005, the game puts Nintendo’s most recognizable characters in a high-energy game of soccer. This game, more arcade-like and less a sports game, has elements inspired by Mario that enhance the randomness of the match.
You can drop items like banana peels to cause your opponents to fall down, while special shots are worth double points when converted. The emphasis here is on fun rather than realism, with gameplay mechanics that feel distinctly Mario-like.
Part of a Popular Franchise
Super Mario Strikers a well-known series that gave two more games after it. The franchise maintained its course as Mario Strikers Charged came out on the Wii in 2007, and the most recent entry is Mario Strikers: Battle League on the Switch in 2022. The addition of the original to the service allows fans to see where it all began.
Growing GameCube Library
With Super Mario Strikers getting added to the mixture, the Switch 2’s GameCube collection now has four games. Nintendo recently confirmed the release of several more classics, including Super Mario Sunshine, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Pokemon Colosseum, for subscribers to look forward to.
Expansion Pack Exclusive Benefits
The GameCube library is one of the many Switch 2-exclusive benefits that you can find in the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription. If you subscribe, you can also gain access to Switch 2 upgrade packs for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, although it isn’t very straightforward.
Subscription Options and Additional Features
$20 a year is the price of a standard Nintendo Switch Online subscription, but the premium Expansion Pack plan is $50 per year. For families, Nintendo has an annual family plan of 80 dollars. This plan supports up to eight Nintendo Accounts on multiple systems.
Switch Online members can use the Switch 2’s GameChat to talk and share screens with friends. All Switch 2 owners can access this feature via open access trial until March 31, 2026, after which a Switch Online subscription will be needed.
