The Nintendo Switch 2 is adding an exciting new feature: USB mouse support. In certain games, players will have the option to plug in a USB mouse, bypassing the use of controllers or the Joy-Con’s built-in mouse-like functionality. This new feature was first demonstrated in Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening CE, a title from Koei Tecmo. The game’s producer, Michi Ryu, showcased how plugging in a USB mouse into the console could change the way the game is played.
Once the USB mouse is connected, a message appears on-screen, confirming the connection. At that point, the mouse becomes the primary input device, overriding the Joy-Con controls. This new functionality is particularly intriguing for genres like RTS and RPGs, where precise pointing and clicking can improve gameplay experience.
The most exciting part? Switching between using the mouse and Joy-Con is simple and can be done on the fly. Whether you want to use both simultaneously or alternate between the two, it’s all possible, offering flexible control options that suit different playing styles.
Could USB Keyboard Support Follow?
The discovery has sparked further interest in whether the Switch 2 will also support USB keyboards, which could help it compete more directly with devices like the Steam Deck. With this added control flexibility, it’s clear Nintendo is aiming to cater to a wider range of players.
The Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5, and this added mouse support is just one of the features that make it an enticing prospect for gamers.
