In the competitive world of game development, mergers and acquisitions often lead to new opportunities and challenges. The Perfect Dark reboot, a project once full of promise, unfortunately met its end when Microsoft and Take-Two couldn’t find common ground. However, this hasn’t halted the progress for some key developers who were involved.
New Beginnings for Perfect Dark Developers
Reports suggest that despite the Perfect Dark reboot being officially canceled by Microsoft in July 2025, key team members have found a new path. Notably, Take-Two has welcomed Darrell Gallagher and Brian Horton to lead a freshly minted 2K studio. Gallagher’s experience includes serving as Studio Head at both The Initiative and Crystal Dynamics. Horton’s impressive resume features contributions to titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man series and the anticipated Marvel’s Wolverine.
Take-Two’s Strategic Moves
Take-Two’s strategy of attracting industry veterans is not new. In a similar move, they previously brought on Michael Condrey, co-creator of Dead Space, to establish 31st Union. Although Condrey left the company earlier this year, the studio continues to work on Project ETHOS, indicating Take-Two’s commitment to nurturing new talent and projects.

The new Take-Two studio may still be years away from debuting its first project, but expectations are high given the talent leading the charge. As the gaming community eagerly anticipates further developments, the hope is that this initiative will bring fresh and exciting content to the industry.
