Team Liquid has officially confirmed that Torbjørn ‘mithR’ Nyborg, the head coach of its Counter-Strike 2 roster, has departed from the organisation.
Stepping in temporarily is analyst Jay ‘Demars DeRover’ Li, who will serve as interim head coach while Team Liquid initiates the search for a permanent successor.
Departure Confirmed via Social Media
The announcement, shared on the organisation’s official X account, marks the end of mithR’s tenure with Team Liquid after less than a year.
In a public statement, Team Liquid thanked the coach for his commitment and effort during his time with the team, expressing appreciation for his support and wishing him success in future endeavours.
Following the news, mithR took to social media to express his thoughts on the situation. He acknowledged that the year had not unfolded as intended and conveyed a deep sense of disappointment. However, he also indicated a forward-looking mindset, stating that he intended to learn from the experience and apply those lessons with future teams.
He explained that, although he would have preferred to continue working through challenges with the team, he recognized that the decision was ultimately in the best interest of both sides. He added that if he had been in their position, he might have made the same choice.
Coaching History and Role at Team Liquid
With nearly a decade of experience in the competitive Counter-Strike scene, mithR has held coaching roles across numerous high-level organisations, including Apeks, Mousesports, and North. His professional coaching journey began in 2016 and spans both CS:GO and CS2 eras.
MithR joined Team Liquid in mid-2024 and led the squad in his first tournament during August of that year. Under his leadership, Team Liquid reached the top four at the BLAST Premier: Fall Groups 2024 and later secured sixth place at the BLAST Premier: Fall Final 2024.
Despite some promising results in 2024, the team has faced challenges in the current season, including a disappointing group stage exit at IEM Katowice 2025.
