Texas Files Lawsuit Against Roblox, Accuses It of Ignoring Safety Laws and Misleading Parents About Platform Dangers

The battle over online safety intensifies as Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton takes action against the gaming giant Roblox. Allegations are surfacing about the platform’s negligence towards child safety, positioning it alongside other tech companies already under scrutiny.

“I’m suing Roblox for putting pixel pedophiles and profits over the safety of Texas children,” Paxton announced on social media. He insisted that platforms such as Roblox should not become digital havens for predators, where corporate greed overshadows child safety.

Legal Action Against Roblox

In an official press release, Paxton outlined his lawsuit against Roblox Corporation, criticizing the company for allegedly ignoring online safety laws and misleading parents about potential dangers. The action targets the multi-billion-dollar corporation’s management of its vast online gaming space for children.

Roblox, renowned for its popular games like Grow a Garden and Steal a Brainrot, boasts a massive user base. Despite its branding as a safe environment, Paxton alleges that it has become fertile ground for harmful activities.

He further contended that Texas children have been exposed to inappropriate content and exploitation due to the platform’s prioritization of profit over safety.

Roblox’s Response to the Allegations

Sources report that Roblox has expressed disappointment over the lawsuit, claiming it is based on false representations. A spokesperson highlighted Roblox’s commitment to child safety, mentioning proactive measures to eliminate bad actors and secure its users.

In a recent Safety Snapshot, Roblox emphasized its ongoing efforts to enhance safety. The introduction of the Roblox PII Classifier has significantly improved the detection of policy violations surrounding the sharing of personal information.

The company claims these innovations have elevated PII conversation recall in English to 98%, surpassing other open-source models. Moreover, Roblox has increased transparency with users submitting reports, now providing more comprehensive feedback on 250% more reports.
