The Coalition, a leading game development studio based in Vancouver, is gearing up for a major release with “Gears of War: E-Day.” Partnering with the Polish developer People Can Fly, they aim to launch this highly anticipated game in 2026. Although publicly revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase in June 2024, development of the game has quietly progressed for nearly six years.
The Coalition’s Journey in Game Development
While primarily focusing on Gears of War: E-Day, The Coalition has also engaged in several high-profile collaborations. They contributed to projects such as Gears Tactics alongside Splash Damage, supported 343 Industries in Halo Infinite, and participated in the creation of The Matrix Awakens and the Alpha Point Unreal Engine 5 demo for Epic Games. Adding to their portfolio, the studio released Gears of War: Reloaded, a remastered version of the original third-person shooter, marking the series’ debut on Sony’s PlayStation 5.
Gears of War: E-Day – A New Chapter
The Coalition aspires to leave a lasting impact with Gears of War: E-Day. As part of a significant end-of-the-year interview, they expressed excitement for the game’s release in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of the Gears of War franchise. Building this ambitious project from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5, the game promises to deliver a fresh experience while maintaining the essence of the series. Players will witness Marcus and Dom confronting the Locust for the first time, setting a perfect stage for newcomers to dive into the Gears universe.
Gears of War: E-Day is set to be an origin story, occurring fourteen years before the first game, on Emergence Day when the Locust Horde surfaced to threaten Sera’s peace. Despite the release of Gears of War: Reloaded on the PlayStation 5, E-Day is currently confirmed only for PC and Xbox Series S and X platforms.
