The Last of Us Part II’s Scrapped ‘Hold Up’ Mechanic May Return Thanks to Modder Efforts

Gamers continue to uncover hidden elements in games long after their release, and The Last of Us Part II is no exception. Despite being launched over five years ago, enthusiasts are still delving into its intricacies. Recently, a modder known as Speclizer revealed a previously unseen feature called ‘Hold Up’. This feature, initially cut from the game, allowed Ellie to sneak up on enemies and dictate their movements before they attempted to fight back.

Unveiling Hidden Features

The discovery of the ‘Hold Up’ feature has intrigued many within the gaming community. Speclizer plans to reintegrate this feature into the PC version of The Last of Us Part II, though he acknowledges that it will involve substantial work. Interested players may soon access this mod through Speclizer’s Patreon, where a subscription provides tools and mods, including previous releases like Project FEDRA and Endure Survival game modes for The Last of Us Part I.

Exciting Gameplay Modes

Project FEDRA introduces players to a fresh gameplay experience, casting them as a FEDRA soldier responsible for maintaining order and earning ration cards. These cards serve as the Quarantine Zone’s currency, essential for acquiring weapons and gear for future missions. Speclizer aims to adapt this mode for The Last of Us Part II as well. Meanwhile, Endure Survival offers a wave-based Horde mode with a shopping system, allowing players to stock up at Bill’s store between rounds.

Future Prospects for The Last of Us

Earlier in the year, Neil Druckmann hinted that The Last of Us Part II might be the final installment of the series unless a compelling new narrative arises. However, recent developments suggest otherwise. Druckmann’s involvement in upcoming projects, coupled with his departure from the HBO TV series adaptation, hints at exciting prospects for fans. Before exploring new tales in this beloved franchise, Naughty Dog is focused on completing their new sci-fi IP, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, expected no earlier than 2027. This means fans of the post-apocalyptic world of The Last of Us will need to be patient for any new adventures.
