The Game Awards 2025 brought exciting news to the gaming community with several major announcements. One standout moment was the return of acclaimed indie developer Jonathan Blow, known for Braid and The Witness, as he introduced his latest project. The new game, titled Order of the Sinking Star, is being developed by Blow and his team at Thekla, Inc., and promises to deliver an unprecedented puzzle adventure experience.
An Ambitious New Puzzle Adventure
Order of the Sinking Star is set to launch on PC in 2026. According to Blow, this narrative puzzle game is “the biggest game I’ve worked on.” A glimpse at the trailer reveals a stunning world where players will tackle over a thousand puzzles across various settings. The collaborative nature of the project shines through as it combines the creative energies of multiple designers, making the game more intricate and expansive than any of Thekla’s previous works.
A Collaborative Effort
Blow described the game as a “design supercollider,” merging ideas from several brilliant minds to create a complex puzzle landscape. The team boasts contributions from esteemed designers including Alan Hazelden, Sean Barrett, Jonah Ostroff, Zach Polansky, Patrick Traynor, and Marc ten Bosch, among others. “We’ve successfully pushed the limits of what is possible in a puzzle adventure,” Blow shared, expressing eagerness to reveal more details as the launch date approaches.
Future Platform Releases
Yoon Im, CEO of Arc Games, the game’s publisher, expressed excitement over the announcement, stating that it signals a groundbreaking year ahead. While currently confirmed for PC, Order of the Sinking Star is expected to expand to other platforms, though this may occur after the initial release. More information regarding additional platforms and release schedules will be unveiled in due course.
