Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis Introduces Fully Revamped Combat and Exploration, Reveals Game Director

The Game Awards 2025 delivered an unexpected delight for Tomb Raider enthusiasts with the announcement of “Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis.” While anticipation was high for a new entry from Crystal Dynamics, the unveiling of a remake of the iconic first installment in this renowned action/adventure series caught fans by surprise. The remake is set to launch in 2026, perfectly timed to celebrate the franchise’s 30th anniversary, with a new entry to follow in 2027.

The Adventure Begins Again

“Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis,” co-developed by Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog, promises to recapture the charm of the original while updating the experience for modern gamers. Flying Wild Hog, known for titles like “Hard Reset,” “Shadow Warrior,” “Trek to Yomi,” and “Evil West,” lends its expertise to the project. Developers assure fans that while the essence of the original game remains, significant updates have been made. “The realities of 1996 and 2026 are different, and we want Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis to evoke the same feelings as the first time you played it, but it must be a modern game experience when you play it.” explained Game Director Will Kerslake.

Key Updates and Voice Talent

The developers reveal that while the game isn’t a remaster, it won’t feel outdated. Key systems, such as combat and exploration, have been completely reimagined, though fans can still expect the thrilling traps, like the notorious rolling boulders, to return. Additionally, “Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis” features the same Lara Croft as the upcoming “Tomb Raider: Catalyst,” showing the character at different stages in her life. Both games will feature British actress Alix Wilton Regan as the voice of Lara Croft, known for her roles in “The Last Story,” “Mass Effect 3,” and “Assassin’s Creed Origins.”
