Crystal Dynamics is set to unveil the highly anticipated new Tomb Raider game at The Game Awards 2025, hosted by Geoff Keighley. This exciting event will take place on Thursday, December 11, at 7:30 PM Eastern Time / 4:30 PM Pacific Time / 12:30 AM British Time. Fans have eagerly awaited this reveal, as Lara Croft remains one of gaming’s most iconic figures.
A New Era for Tomb Raider
The announcement arrives after confirmation from both Geoff Keighley and the official Lara Croft franchise account, teasing fans with the promise of a glimpse into the franchise’s future. After the release of Shadow of the Tomb Raider in 2018, fans have been longing for a new installment. Crystal Dynamics, previously focused on Marvel’s Avengers, has since redirected its efforts to the beloved Tomb Raider series.
Technical Evolution and Publishing Partnership
In April 2022, Crystal Dynamics revealed that the new Tomb Raider game would be developed using Unreal Engine 5, marking a departure from their proprietary Foundation Engine. Additionally, Amazon Games has stepped in as the game’s publisher, with Amazon also acquiring the movie and TV rights, sparking rumors of a shared universe across various media.
Rumors and Speculation
While official game details remain scarce, a rumor from May 2024 suggested that Lara’s next adventure might be set in India, featuring an open-world environment where she can traverse the landscape on a motorcycle. Meanwhile, the Tomb Raider TV series has cast Sophie Turner as Lara Croft, with filming expected to begin next year, aiming for a 2027 release. Gamers, however, are hopeful to embark on Lara’s newest journey in 2026.
