With the unveiling of FSR4 alongside the 9070 XT in May, AMD has made significant strides in the discrete GPU market, closing a longstanding feature gap with its rival, Nvidia. While FSR4 has advanced in quality, narrowing the gap with Nvidia’s DLSS Transformer model, it still encounters challenges in terms of game support.
Current State of Game Support – How AMD FSR4 Stacks Against NVIDIA DLSS4
AMD initially announced FSR4 would support 30+ games at launch, with a promise of reaching over 75 by 2025. By September, they had achieved support for 85+ games. Despite this impressive growth, it still falls short compared to Nvidia DLSS4, which boasts support for over 175 games as of August. Furthermore, while Nvidia allows DLSS Transformer support to be overridden in almost any DLSS game, FSR4 is limited to games supporting FSR3.1 and above, putting it at a disadvantage.
The community, however, isn’t sitting idly by. They’ve developed Optiscaler, a versatile mod that bridges the gaps among different upscaling technologies. With Optiscaler, users can take advantage of FSR4’s capabilities even in games that originally support only FSR or DLSS from version 2.x onward, achieving a crisp upscaled output.
How to Install Optiscaler
To install Optiscaler, download the mod from [here](https://github.com/optiscaler/OptiScaler). Navigate to “Releases” and download the Optiscaler.7z package. Avoid downloading the source code.
After extracting the Optiscaler package, locate your game’s directory. For Game Pass titles, this is found at C:XboxGames. For Steam titles, it’s typically C:Program Files (x86)Steamsteamappscommon.
Copy the contents of the Optiscaler folder into the game’s executable directory. Run setup_windows.bat and follow the prompts to complete the installation. If including DLSS inputs, ensure fakenvapi is also installed.
Finally, launch your game, navigate to the graphics menu, and enable the upscaling method. Use the Insert key to access the in-game Optiscaler menu, and adjust settings for optimal performance. Enjoy your enhanced FSR4 experience!
