Earlier this month, a mysterious monolith with a demonic look emerged in the Mojave Desert, catching the attention of gaming fans everywhere. Geoff Keighley shared a snapshot of this intriguing structure, which displayed figures of skeletons, alligators, soldiers, a wolf, and other enigmatic creatures. The gaming community has been abuzz, speculating whether this is a teaser for upcoming titles ahead of The Game Awards. Could it be Diablo 4, The Elder Scrolls 6, God of War, Bloodborne 2, or perhaps Altered Beast?
Uncovering the Mystery With Trademarks
The suspense might have been resolved just in time for The Game Awards on Thursday. Keen observations by certain sources reveal newly registered trademarks showcasing a logo strikingly similar to a symbol on the monolith. These trademarks seem to point toward a new Divinity game from Larian Studios.
Here’s the evidence: consider one of the trademarks, featuring an image that closely matches the central emblem on the statue:

Comparing this to the big symbol at the center of the statue, we see a definite match. But how do we connect this to Divinity? Another trademark, filed simultaneously and by the same company, simply reads “Divinity” and features an accompanying logo:

This resemblance is quite similar to past Divinity: Original Sin logos, and even closer to the older Divinity games, with the familiar slashed “i”.

All of this points to a possible return of Divinity, but not necessarily Divinity: Original Sin. Michael Douse, Director of Publishing at Larian Studios, recently clarified on social media that there are no current plans for Divinity: Original Sin 3, though he hinted at future announcements.
A New Era for Divinity Fans?

For fans of Divinity, this news is exciting, as Divinity: Original Sin 2 was a huge success. The game was highly praised, with a score of 9.6/10, for its homage to classic RPGs like Baldur’s Gate 2, while innovating within the genre.
Speaking of Baldur’s Gate, Larian’s most recent project, Baldur’s Gate 3, received a perfect score and was hailed as a landmark moment in the CRPG genre. While some enthusiasts hoped for immediate DLC or a sequel for Baldur’s Gate, Larian Studios has been clear about not continuing with another D&D game right now. Nonetheless, Larian CEO Swen Vincke has been teasing a new project for some time, suggesting that The Game Awards might just be the stage for a big reveal.
