Valve’s upcoming MOBA Deadlock appears to have multiple layers of testing, as evidence suggests an even more exclusive alpha version exists alongside the already limited closed alpha test.
Hidden Version Accidentally Revealed by Streamer
A YouTube content creator inadvertently exposed what seems to be a more advanced version of Deadlock during a live broadcast. The streamer Deathy apparently launched an alternative build of the game that featured 10 additional playable heroes not available in the standard alpha test, bringing the total character roster to 40 instead of the usual 30.
This secretive version also displayed updated designs for several existing characters from the standard alpha. Among the previously unseen heroes were a character called Doorman with a bellhop theme, a Frankenstein-inspired character named Frank (referencing Mary Shelley’s famous creation), and a character called Punkgoat whose artwork appeared to be identical to an existing character named Shiv.
Although Deathy terminated the stream and removed the archive upon realising the mistake, screenshots of this exclusive version quickly spread across the official Deadlock subreddit.
Deadlock’s Development Journey
Deadlock has had an unusual path to public awareness. Valve notably refused to acknowledge the game’s existence despite months of footage leaks, only finally confirming its development last summer. The game is described on its Steam page as “in early development with lots of temporary art and experimental gameplay” and notes that “access is currently limited to friend invite via playtesters.”
The 6v6 multiplayer shooter combines elements of the MOBA genre, continuing to build anticipation within the gaming community as more players gradually receive invitations to the standard closed alpha test.
