The gaming world often sees the rise and fall of titles, and now, one of the Vampire: The Masquerade series is set to bow out. As Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 finally makes its long-awaited debut, its sibling, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt, prepares for its final curtain call. This free-to-play battle royale, which first welcomed players in its 1.0 version on April 27, 2022, will shut down its servers on April 28, 2026, marking almost four years of gameplay.
The End of an Era for Bloodhunt
Developer Sharkmob has announced the closure, attributing the decision to a dwindling player base that renders the game unsustainable. While server shutdowns of always-online games are disappointing, this particular move doesn’t come as a shock. Back in 2023, Sharkmob had already ceased development of Bloodhunt, leaving the servers operational without new updates.
SteamDB data reveals that player numbers consistently exceeded 1,000 only during 2023. Since October 2024, the player count has hovered around a few hundred, indicating declining interest. Despite the game also being available on PS5, such numbers are insufficient for sustaining a multiplayer experience.
Farewell Messages from Sharkmob
In a heartfelt message on Bloodhunt’s official site, Sharkmob expressed gratitude for the community’s passion and enthusiasm over the years. They acknowledged the dedication of the players and explained the tough choice to end the game due to the unsustainable player numbers.
As the game prepares to sunset, purchasing in-game tokens has been discontinued. Players can enjoy using their remaining tokens until the shutdown, but once the servers go dark, all gameplay data and currency will be erased. The developers encourage fans to savor the remaining time in the game, cherishing the memories crafted in the virtual Prague.
The Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt servers will close on April 28, 2026, effectively ending the game’s journey.
