Witchfire Hits 500K Sales Mark, Unleashes ‘The Reckoning’ Update

Witchfire, the highly anticipated RPG shooter from Polish indie developer The Astronauts, has reached a significant milestone by surpassing 500,000 units sold since its Early Access launch two years ago. This achievement highlights the game’s growing popularity and player engagement.

The Reckoning Update Unleashes New Arsenal

A major update, titled ‘The Reckoning,’ has been released, transforming Witchfire’s combat by introducing four new melee weapons, including a Morgenstern, Katar, and Shield. These additions offer players unique abilities and strategies, enhancing the gameplay experience. Alongside the melee weapons, three new firearms, including the triple-barrel shotgun, the Tribunal, have been added. This weapon encourages an aggressive, mobile playstyle, allowing players to charge their shots and unleash devastating explosions on foes.

Enhancements and New Features

Witchfire now includes a shooting range with an interactive bestiary, providing players a space to refine their skills and experiment with different loadouts. The game is also verified for Steam Deck, offering new accessibility options like font size adjustments and an arachnophobia filter. The latter feature arrives in time for a new spider-themed calamity, adding a challenging event to the game. Additionally, the extraction system has been revamped, and two new gameplay modifiers have been introduced to test players’ skills. A detailed list of these updates is available in the Steam patch notes or on the developer’s website.

Witchfire combines the tension of an RPG shooter with roguelite progression and the challenge of Souls-like games. Players assume the role of a Preyer, an undead assassin wielding the power of Witchfire to confront the Witch of the Black Sea and her forces. Between expeditions, players can craft unique builds from a vast array of weapons, spells, and artifacts, all while uncovering the deeper narrative.

After years in development, Witchfire’s full launch has been postponed to 2026, but players can experience the Early Access version at a 20% discount on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
