Fans of the beloved Banjo-Kazooie series have something new to celebrate. While Xbox isn’t currently developing a fresh installment, a new game featuring the iconic bear and bird duo has emerged. This exciting development is available through Dreams on both PS4 and PS5.
Banjo-Kazooie: Mumbomania has made its debut as a standout platformer on Sony’s game creation platform, boasting a level of craftsmanship akin to Rare’s own productions.
Classic Gameplay Reimagined
A newly released trailer on social media showcases the nostalgic gameplay that fans have been craving. In a setting reminiscent of the series’ glory days, Banjo the bear performs familiar moves like jumping, gliding, and rolling, and even launches from a cannon to collect various items.

Perhaps most striking are the many transformations available to players, turning Banjo into a powerful rock golem, a pirate with a cutlass, and more.
The Series’ Lingering Legacy
Originally gracing the N64 in the late 1990s, Banjo-Kazooie transitioned to the Xbox 360 in 2008 after Microsoft’s acquisition of Rare. Despite its massive fanbase, the franchise has been dormant since Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts also launched on the Xbox 360 in 2008, marking 17 years without a new entry.
Despite continuous pleas for a revival, Xbox has yet to announce any new projects, with Rare focusing on expanding Sea of Thieves. Microsoft’s gaming chief, Phil Spencer, acknowledged fans’ desires in 2023, expressing openness to revisiting classic franchises when conditions align.
A Spiritual Successor
While Banjo and Kazooie may feel sidelined, their legacy continues in different forms. Beyond their presence in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, fans have enjoyed Yooka-Laylee, a spiritual successor developed by former Banjo-Kazooie team members. This homage saw a refreshed release with Yooka-Laylee: Replayee in October of this year.
