The Xbox app for PC is getting a major update that will create a unified experience across stores. Sony still refuses to give XBOX exclusives whereas multiple games from Microsoft have been made cross-console to play on PS5 this year. Thanks to the new aggregated gaming library feature in Xbox PC app, users will now see PlayStation titles beside their other PC games.
PlayStation PC Ports Now Visible in Xbox App
An updated Xbox PC application lets you see the games you have across different PC platforms through Steam, Epic Games Store, and others. This means that PlayStation games that are available on PC, like Spider-Man: Miles Morales, could pop up in the Xbox interface. A social media post confirmed this feature; PlayStation PC games can be seen on the Xbox app, as evidenced by a screenshot.
No Surprise for Xbox Handheld Strategy
This is an extension of a statement made earlier by Microsoft that the forthcoming ROG Xbox Ally hand held devices will have support for PlayStation titles launched on PC. Those PlayStation games will not have Xbox achievements or any other Xbox-specific features when launched from the app, users must remember.
Microsoft’s Gaming Platform Ambitions
The industry is now analyzing that Microsoft is trying to pick a few pages from Steam. Previously, the company tried to rival Valve’s omnipresent platform, but that didn’t go well. It appears that now they want to merge with it rather than replace it.
Future of Xbox Ecosystem
There are still many unknowns regarding Xbox’s future direction, but Xbox president Sarah Bond recently confirmed the next-gen Xbox. Bond insisted that player game libraries will be usable on lots of devices and storefronts, supporting Microsoft’s cross-play strategy.
According to reports, Microsoft is no longer working on a dedicated Xbox handheld device. Instead, it is now partnering with manufacturers such as the ROG Xbox Ally and other 3rd party hardware. The firm additionally worked with Meta on a limited-time Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition, expanding its presence on gaming platforms.
