Xbox Summer Showcase 2025 Returns With Focus on The Outer Worlds 2

Microsoft has officially announced the return of its annual Xbox Games Showcase, scheduled for Sunday, June 8, 2025. Although E3 is no longer around, the summer event remains a staple for Xbox fans, and this year it’s bringing a fresh lineup of announcements and a special spotlight on Obsidian Entertainment’s upcoming title, The Outer Worlds 2.

A Global Digital Event Packed With First-Party and Third-Party Surprises

According to the official Xbox blog, the event will offer a deep look into upcoming titles from Xbox’s internal studios, along with a range of new projects from third-party developers worldwide. The post emphasized that the entire showcase will be available via livestream, making it accessible to fans across the globe. There will be no in-person attendance, continuing the trend of digital-only presentations.

What Fans Are Hoping to See

While Xbox has yet to name specific titles in the lineup, expectations are high for updates on FableState of Decay 3Gears of War: E-Day, and the next installment in the Call of Duty franchise. Although news on The Elder Scrolls VI remains uncertain, a new Starfield expansion appears more likely. With BlizzCon postponed until 2026, it’s also expected that updates on Diablo IV and other Blizzard titles will fill some of the gap.

Outer Worlds 2 Direct Follows Main Event

Right after the main showcase wraps, viewers can stay tuned for a dedicated Direct presentation focused entirely on The Outer Worlds 2. This segment will include never-before-seen gameplay, developer commentary, and fresh details about the story and mechanics of the highly anticipated sequel to the 2019 sci-fi RPG. Set in a galaxy filled with corporate exploitation and outlaw factions, the game is targeting a late 2025 release on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. A version for Nintendo’s next console could also be announced.

Why The Outer Worlds 2 Is In the Spotlight

The spotlight on The Outer Worlds 2 may be filling the void left by the delay of Fable to 2026. Xbox has made a habit of pairing its summer showcases with standalone Directs for its major upcoming titles—previous years featured Starfield in 2023 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 in 2024.

Looking ahead, rumors suggest that Xbox may also unveil a Gears of War collection and several new ports for PlayStation 5 and both versions of Nintendo Switch, aligning with Microsoft’s broader shift toward multiplatform support.
