Yuji Horii Sparks New Excitement for Chrono Trigger Remake: “Don’t Ask Me About That!”

The anticipation for a potential Chrono Trigger remake has been brewing among fans of classic JRPGs from the 90s. While no official announcement has been made, recent developments hint at possibilities. Dragon Quest series creator Yuji Horii’s recent reaction to inquiries about this remake has sparked curiosity and speculation.

Hints at a Possible Remake

During a discussion program shared on YouTube on November 30, Yuji Horii was questioned about potential projects for Chrono Trigger’s 30th Anniversary. His response was cryptic yet intriguing; rather than confirming or denying the remake, he simply stated he couldn’t comment on it. This non-denial has fueled hopes that something might be in development.

Past Remarks and Speculation

This isn’t the first time such a conversation has occurred. In May, a translation error during Horii’s appearance at the Napoli Comicon led to excitement about a possible Chrono Trigger remake. Sources suggested that if a remake happens, it might be considered for an HD-2D update rather than a complete overhaul.

Chrono Trigger, initially released for the SNES in 1995, has since been ported to various platforms like the Nintendo DS, PC, and mobile devices. These versions include additional content such as new dungeons, a final boss, and an ending linking it more closely with its sequel, Chrono Cross, which was remastered as The Radical Dreamers Edition in 2022. Fans eagerly await any confirmation of a remake of this beloved classic.
